Preparation for the WIN!

"If only there were more hours in the day" We often wish we had more time; Sadly, even when we have time to ourselves it seems to pass in the blink of an eye without us getting anything done. Have you noticed how the work you need to do seems to expand to fill the time you have to do it in? With competing demands on our time and too many commitments there is rarely enough time for us to take care of our health.

For many of us this lack of time manifests in failing to exercise, eating ready meals and takeaways when we don't have time to cook and slapdash cooking and poor portion discipline when we do have time. In other words, when we're pushed for time we eat badly and we don't exercise.

One of the best way to get around this common pitfall is putting some of those plastic takeaway containers you've been accumulating in your kitchen cupboards to good use by cooking in bulk.

Pick a few simple recipes that you are good at, chilli, Bolognese, chicken casserole, soup, stew (anything that will freeze really) and then take a few hours at the weekend or on your day off to cook them in bulk. If you normally cook a chill that serves 4 then buy ingredients for double or triple that quantity and then cook the lot. It shouldn't take much longer than cooking the normal amount.

Portion it out and leave it to cool down and then stock up your freezer. For the best results take the time to cook all your best dishes so that you have a good couple of weeks worth of meals stockpiled. Don't forget, you can record the ingredients as a recipe on MFP so that every time you eat it you can record it in your diary in just a few taps of your smartphone.

All you need to do then is take out a portion on the morning of the day you plan to eat it and let nature take its course. It should be defrosted and ready to microwave by the time you get in for dinner. You could even take it to work with you and warm it up at lunchtime.

You can also portion and freeze cooked rice, sliced bread, grated cheese, the list goes on. When you are hungry and tempted to order a takeaway simply eat your own homemade ready meals instead.
